Shaw Has Regained a Customer

In my previous posts, I indicated that I was going to give Shaw another go for their Internet and TV services.  Shaw has dramatically increased the bandwidth choices, offering a 100Mbps and 250Mbps option for their bandwidth hungry customers.  Unfortunately, 25Mbps is all that TELUS currently provides.

I called Shaw in early November and agreed to initially go with their 20Mbps Internet offering as they were providing a six month special package – I like saving money.  I also went with their Gateway PVR solution which permits up to six shows to be recorded at once.

So, here we are almost a month later and I’m happy to report that the initial issues I had with my Internet service have all but gone away.  I required the Shaw technician to put a line conditioner on my cable and since then, the Internet service has been consistent and stable.  Watching HD on my television sets is an absolute joy!  The picture is crystal clear and has a noticeably better image than what I was getting with TELUS HD.  I’m not sure why there is such a difference, but there is.  While the previous guide on the Shaw Motorola boxes left a little to be desired, the guide on the Arris based PVR and Portal boxes is significantly better.  I also understand that Shaw has recently updated their guide on the other digital boxes as well.

I am going to remain with my 20Mbps Internet service until the promotion expires and then upgrade to 100Mbps.  I’m looking forward to that and hopefully will see a consistent service.  Shaw has come the realization that they are competing for every dollar they receive.  It is only through competition that consumers have a choice and can make the decision that best suits their respective needs.
