Siri Poses Significant Threat to Google – It’s True!

I had one of those ‘a-ha’ moments this morning.

I had parked my car as I usually do and was walking in to the office.  I had the pleasure of talking with one of the Executives who was telling me how much they absolutely loved their new iPhone 4S.  More specifically, how much they loved Siri.

Now, you have to understand the situation.  This is a person that has long been provided with technology in their capacity at work.  They have been a longer term Blackberry user, but frankly had a history of just using it as a phone.  It remained put away until there was a time it was needed.  This same person was enthusiastically going on about the virtues of the iPhone.  How much easier it was to use and how natural Siri was.

This really left an impact with me as it truly demonstrated that I indeed had called this right.  Siri is going to be revolutionary.  As it matures and as more and more people understand what it is all about and what you can do with it, Apple will effectively cut Google out of a lot of search based Ads and revenue.  People will naturally ask Siri their questions and Siri will obediently and gladly respond with the answers – not referencing Google at all.

Both Microsoft and Google tried to downplay Siri.  It’s obvious why they did that at first, because frankly, they didn’t totally and completely understand the impact.  Now they do.  Google CEO Eric Schmidt has now positioned Apple (sans Siri) as a significant threat to Google’s business model.

The old adage does indeed hold true.  What goes around… comes around.
